PhD student in medicine

Responsibilities

• In a multidisciplinary team, help conducting the multi-methods study
• Collect and analyse data, and write up scientific papers (as first and co-author)
• Present results at national and international conferences
• As a member of the research group, the PhD students will also help with writing newsletters or grant applications

Requirements

• MSc or equivalent degree in medicine, health sciences, social sciences, or similar discipline
• Native German - speaking / Working English proficiency
• Knowledge of quantitative and/ or qualitative research methods
• Interest in integrative medicine, pediatric oncology, national and international collaboration
• Structured, independent and accurate way of working

Work area

Pediatric Oncology is a success story with survival rates of 87% at 10 years after diagnosis in Switzerland. This huge effort was achieved within only 50 years and by conventional treatment with surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and stem cell transplantation. But most parents and even the patients want to do more than conventional therapy to minimize acute and long-term toxicity and enhance their chances of survival. Evidence about integrative medicine in pediatric oncology is sparse – this collaborative project (SCREEN - Safety and effeCts of integRative medicinE on acute side Effects in pediatric oNcology) will enhance our knowledge in the field and contribute to evidence about the effect of integrative medicine in the field of supportive care of pediatric oncology. This is a collaborative project between the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Switzerland and the University of Lucerne involving Swiss and international pediatric oncology centers.
