As an Underwriter within our Engineering & Construction team, you will play a vital role in assessing and underwriting a broad range of construction and engineering treaties. Depending on your experience, this position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute at both a technical and strategic level—whether you are an accomplished professional or an emerging leader looking to further develop your expertise.

You will be responsible for independently analyzing complex risks, developing tailored underwriting solutions, and supporting the growth of a profitable and well-balanced portfolio. Your insights will help shape risk assessments, treaty structures, and policy wording, ensuring alignment with our risk appetite, guidelines, and strategic objectives.

In addition, you will collaborate closely with clients, market partners, and internal teams, providing guidance and support that enhances our risk management standards. For more experienced candidates, there will be opportunities to mentor junior underwriters, contribute to process improvements, and take on leadership responsibilities in underwriting initiatives.

What you’ll be doing

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Support the underwriting of construction and engineering treaties through independent analysis and comprehensive risk assessment of client submissions, including understanding risk structures and exposures.
  • Develop and formulate quotations, pricing, and underwriting approval documents, ensuring prompt processing of slips and policy wordings.
  • Help grow and maintain a profitable in-force book by identifying new opportunities and effectively managing renewals.
  • Collaborate closely with team members, actuarial functions, client advocates, market leaders, and operational units to ensure cohesive and effective underwriting processes.
  • Conduct risk analysis considering cedent exposures, lines of business, and geographic factors; identify and evaluate exposures to ensure adherence to limits and risk management frameworks.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of exposure management and reporting tools, supporting the ongoing improvement of risk monitoring processes.
  • Utilize actuarial tools and work collaboratively with regional and global teams to analyze, assess, and price risks accurately.
  • Assist in producing comprehensive and accurate data reports, supporting strategic decision-making.
  • Analyze internal reports, loss runs, and financial data, conducting research to evaluate the risk profile of each account.
  • Structure deals, define policy conditions, and manage capacity in alignment with underwriting guidelines and our risk appetite strategy.
  • Support the development of best practices in underwriting and risk assessment, mentoring junior team members where appropriate, and sharing expertise to foster team growth.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Seasoned professional in Construction and Engineering or Energy treaty underwriting
  • Fluent in English and German. Any additional European language an advantage
  • Robust level of technical underwriting experience
  • Excellent analytic and risk assessment skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to effectively collaborate within a team
  • Creative problem-solver and analytical thinker who can demonstrate adaptability and accuracy, along with sharp numerical and logical skills and an ability to make critical decisions using own judgment
  • Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workloads
  • Ability to perform under pressure, especially during the busy renewal season
