The Development Engineer SDIS (m/f/x) is responsible for the development of the Straumann Dental Implant Systems (SDIS) portfolio within the Straumann Group. The engineer will work in interdisciplinary and cross-functional teams including product developers, product designers, manufacturing, quality, regulatory affairs, pre-clinical operations, clinical operations and the sales organizations. The engineer enables dental professionals to positively impact the lives of their customers and patients. The position is based in Basel-Stadt/Basel-Land, Switzerland, and reports to the Team Lead Product Development Instruments. Travel is required by up to 10%.
Your responsibilities:
- Overall technical lead on demanding, cross-functional development projects under consideration of the design control process and risk management
- Evaluation of technical solutions and performance of feasibility studies
- Translation of user needs and standards into design
- Coordination of verification and validation (V&V) activities
- Coordination of design transfer activities
- Evaluation of business opportunities that come along with design modifications.
- Technical Lead in root cause investigations
- Ensure Design History File (DHF) documentation according to GDP
- Subject Matter Expert in audits
- Lead students/trainees
- Support for portfolio strategy
- Lead customer interaction
Your Profile - Qualifications
- Education
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, microengineering, bioengineering, materials sciences, or a related field of study; M.Sc. is preferred, an advanced degree may count as working experience.
Experience - 3-5 years’ experience in a related area such as medical device development or other highly regulated products.
- Advanced experience in product development, manufacturing, and testing.
- Advanced experience with standards and regulations (MDR, FDA, ISO, ASTM).
- Sound knowledge of the design control process.
- Sound knowledge of medical device manufacturing processes (e.g., plastic and/or metal injection molding, machining, post processing).
- Sound knowledge of specific development tools (e.g., statistical analysis, FMEA, analysis of mechanical properties, etc.).
- Sound knowledge of SAP and PLM systems.
- Advanced experience with quality system audits and inspections.
- Advanced experience in operating in a matrixed environment.
