Intern – Data Scientist – Fastening & Protection Solutions (m/f/x)

Hilti is expanding its digital software and services. As a Data Science Intern in BU Fastening & Protection Solutions, you’ll analyze complex data, build predictive and generative AI models, and enhance engineering workflows. Working with stakeholders, you’ll help create scalable, data‑driven solutions that improve customer-facing products and deliver real business impact.

This internship position has a flexible start date and runs for 6–12 months.

What You'll do

As a Data Science Intern, you will help transform data into actionable insights and advanced analytics that power innovation across Hilti’s customer-facing products and services. Your mission is to apply statistical analysis, machine learning, and Generative AI to solve complex business problems, boost data‑driven decision‑making, and increase customer productivity. You will design and build advanced analytical and ML models - from feature engineering to interpretation - and translate business challenges into impactful data solutions. A key part of the role involves exploring emerging ML and GenAI technologies. You will collaborate closely with other Data Scientist and ML Engineers to ensure models are production-ready and seamlessly integrated into applications, and with Data Engineers to define data needs and secure high‑quality datasets. Together with the broader team, you will deliver sustainable, scalable, and value‑adding data solutions that support Hilti’s long‑term strategic goals while creating tangible results for customers.

· Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
· Foundational experience with machine learning, data preprocessing, and model evaluation, with interest in LLMs and Generative AI.
· Hands‑on skills in Python and common AI/ML frameworks, plus curiosity to explore tools like LangChain.
· Familiarity with cloud concepts (AWS or similar) and willingness to learn services such as SageMaker or Bedrock.
· Strong analytical thinking, good communication skills in English, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
