PhD Student in using AI for (qualitative) research

The Institute for Medical Education (IML) https://www.iml.unibe.ch/ is a center of excellence in medical education. As a university institution, we work in the fields of research, teaching, service and development and supervise projects at the cantonal, national and international level.
This PhD Student post is part of the project “LLM4Humans - Empowering humans with local Large Language Models (LLM) in research and clinical practice” which is a collaboration project of the IML with the Department of Clinical Research Bern (DCR) https://dcr.unibe.ch/.
We are seeking to fill the following position immediately or upon agreement for a period of four years:
PhD Student in using AI for (qualitative) research 100%

• Evaluate existing local and online Large Language Models (LLMs) and develop guidance for using these LLMs for analyzing qualitative research data.
• Use interviews and data science methodologies to investigate and compare the analysis of qualitative data by humans and LLMs.
• Execute and disseminate four scientific studies (incl. publications) under supervision

• University degree in psychology, cognitive, social or data sciences or medicine
• Methodological knowhow (preferably in qualitative research methods and/or large language models/data sciencies)
• Profound knowledge of English both written and spoken
• Interest and motivation to engage in this innovative field
• Flair for scientific writing
• Good team working skills
• German language skills are of advantage

• Excellent supervision and collaboration in a motivated, interdisciplinary team consisting of qualitative research experts, data science experts, Post-Docs and PhD students
• Great deal of flexibility
• Fully funded further education as part of the PhD project in the Graduate School for Health Sciences Bern, www.ghs.unibe.ch/
• Established academic infrastructure (language editing, statistical support, administrative sup-port, etc.).
• Remuneration in accordance with the guidelines of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF, www.snf.ch)
• Main supervisor will be Prof. Sören Huwendiek from the IML
