Job description
The BedrettoLab of ETH Zurich is a unique underground research facility enabling cutting-edge geophysical, geotechnical, and energy-related experiments under realistic subsurface conditions. To strengthen our technical team, we are seeking a dedicated and versatile Technician or Engineer to support the development, operation, and continuous improvement of our advanced monitoring and infrastructure systems.
The wide range of experiments conducted in the BedrettoLab relies on numerous sensors and data acquisition systems that monitor processes both in the tunnel and within the surrounding rock mass. These include state-of-the-art monitoring technologies (e.g., fibre-optics-based systems) capable of capturing extremely small seismic vibrations, variations in stress, deformation, pressure, and temperature.
- Develop, install, and operate monitoring and measurement systems in the BedrettoLab
- Take responsibility for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electronic systems
- Plan, supervise, and maintain the research infrastructure inside the tunnel and in the outside facilities
- Contribute to tasks involving, sensitive sensor arrays, unconventional high-pressure injection systems, and deep borehole installations
- Oversee day-to-day scientific operations, maintain inventories, track maintenance schedules, and coordinate on-site activities across multiple research groups
- Work within an interdisciplinary and international team of technicians and scientists to ensure seamless operation of world-class experiments
Your work will play a central role in enabling reliable, safe, and high-quality experimental research in our underground laboratory. Primary place of work would be Bedretto with travels to ETH Zurich upon demand. The position is limited up to a maximum of five years.
Profile
- You are a versatile technician with experience in organizing and performing electrical installations as well as working in measurement technology and/or mechatronics
- You are in good physical condition and comfortable with regular work inside the tunnel
- You are fluent in German and Italian and have good communication skills in English
- You enjoy working as part of a team
- You take responsibility for your tasks and work proactively

We offer
- Your job with impact: Become part of ETH Zurich, which not only supports your professional development, but also actively contributes to positive change in society
- Opportunities for professional development and further training
- A motivated team that enjoys working together and supporting one another
