Job-Inhalt

The Research Department of Plastic Surgery at the University Hospital Zurich (USZ) is inviting applications for a PhD student to join a cutting-edge project investigating the role of the lymphatic vascular system in the aging and function of the brain.
The University Hospital of Zurich is one of the largest hospitals in Switzerland. Our more than 8, 600 employees and around 700 trainees work every day for the well-being of our patients.

Project Overview
Emerging evidence suggests that the lymphatic vascular system plays a critical role in neurophysiology and neurodegeneration. This interdisciplinary project aims to unravel how age-related changes in lymphatic function influence brain health, cognition, and the development of neurological disorders. By combining state-of-the-art techniques in molecular biology, neuroimaging, and vascular biology, we aim to uncover fundamental mechanisms that may inform new therapeutic strategies.
Your Responsibilities
  • Conduct experimental work involving in vivo models, immunohistochemistry, and molecular analysis
  • Analyze data from imaging, gene expression, and functional assays
  • Collaborate with clinicians, neuroscientists, and vascular biologists within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team
  • Present findings at conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals
  • Complete doctoral studies at the University of Zurich

Your Profile
  • Master's degree in biology, neuroscience, biomedicine, or a related field
  • Strong interest in vascular biology, neuroscience, or aging research
  • Previous laboratory experience in cellular or animal models is highly desirable
  • Excellent written and spoken English; German is an asset but not required
  • Motivation, curiosity, flexibility and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Benefits

  • A stimulating research environment in one of Europe's leading university hospitals
  • Access to world-class facilities and expert supervision
  • Integration into a vibrant academic and clinical network
  • Opportunity to contribute to impactful science at the intersection of neuroscience and vascular biology
  • Competitive PhD salary and support for conference travel and career development
  • A cover letter detailing your motivation and research interests
  • CV with academic transcripts
  • Contact information for 2 academic referees
