Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and curious Senior Scientist to join our Biologics Discovery team at the Biomedical Research in Basel, Switzerland. You will participate in the generation of high-quality therapeutic antibodies by setting up and conducting high-throughput functional assays for diverse diseases applications.
About the Role
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and operate high-throughput functional cell-based assays e.g. reporter gene assays, killing assays, etc. for the selection and characterization of antibody drug candidates.
- Collaborate closely with the automation team to transfer established assays onto a suitable automation platform for increased throughput and reliability.
- Apply multiple cutting-edge selection techniques to synthetic and immune antibody libraries, like phage display, yeast display, mammalian display, FACS sorting, plate-based screening. This also includes the characterization of identified leads through various affinity and activity assays, like ELISA, FACS, Octet, and functional & biochemical assays.
- Engineer and improve binders using affinity maturation or humanization techniques.
- Analyze experimental data and present scientific interpretation in project team meetings. Participate in the evaluation or development of new methods and technologies.
- Work cooperatively within a team of 3 scientists, reporting to a lab head.
What you will bring to the role:
- Master Degree in Molecular & Cell Biology or related field with a background in antibody discovery, immunology or oncology
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in Biotech or Pharma company
- Proficiency in mammalian cell culture andmolecular biology
- Experience in developing and executing high-throughput functional and biochemical assays.
- Experience in multiple antibody screening assays including ELISA, FACS, and functional cell-based assays
- Hands-on experience with data analytics platform or software such as Spotfire
- Hands-on experience with data management system such as Genedata Biologics is considered as a plus
- Hands-on experience in antibody discovery using Phage and / or Yeast Display is considered a plus
- Hands-on experience with liquid handling systems (e.g. Beckman, Hamilton, Tecan) is considered a plus
- Ability to critically interpret results, develop and implement innovative methodologies and processes by taking calculated risks and smart decisions
- A collaborative mindset, with an enthusiasm to develop yourself and others
- A commitment to delivering high-quality data
- Aptitude to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented matrix environment
- Fluency in English is essential (oral/written); advanced knowledge of German and/or French is advantageous
